چکیده

The post-linac energy collimation system of CLIC is designed to fulfil an essential function of protection of the Beam Delivery System (BDS) against miss-steered beams generated by failure modes in the main linac. Guaranteeing the collimator survivability in case of direct beam impact is very challenging, if we take into account the need to deal with an unprecedented transverse energy density per beam of the order of GJ/mm. This translates into a high damage potential of uncontrolled beams. In this paper we present an alternative nonlinear energy collimation system as a potential solution to guarantee the survival of the collimators. The performance and error tolerances of this system are studied by means of beam tracking simulations, and compared with those of the conventional baseline CLIC energy collimation system.

Beam Loading Compensation in the Main Linac of Clic

Compensation of multi-bunch beam loading is of great importance in the main linac of the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC). The bunch-to-bunch energy variation has to stay below 1 part in 10. In CLIC, the RF power is obtained by decelerating a drive beam which is formed by merging a number of short bunch trains. A promising scheme for tackling beam loading in the main linac is based on varying the...

Comparison of the Tesla, Nlc and Clic Beam-collimation System Performance∗

This report describes studies performed in the framework of the Collimation Task Force organized to support the work of the second International Linear Collider Technical Review Committee. The post-linac beam-collimation systems in the TESLA, JLC/NLC and CLIC linear-collider designs are compared using the same computer code under the same assumptions. Their performance is quantified in terms of...

The main effects which limit accelerating gradient in CLIC (Compact Linear Collider) main linac accelerating structures are RF breakdown and pulsed surface heating. Recent highlights of the structure development program are presented, including demonstration of higher accelerating gradients using tungsten and a complete redesign of the CLIC main linac accelerating structure, based on reduced su...

Development of a Beam Loss Detection System for the CLIC Test Facility 3

The CLIC test facility 3 (CTF3) provides a 3.5A, 1.6μs electron beam pulse of 150MeV at the end of the linac. The average beam power is 4 kW. Beam losses will be monitored all along the linac in order to keep the radiation level as low as possible. The heavy beam loading of the linac can lead to time transients of beam position, size and energy along the pulse. To compensate for these transient...

GeV CLIC γγ Collider Based on it’s Drive Beam FEL

CLIC is a linear ee (γγ) collider project which uses a drive beam to accelerate the main beam. The drive beam provides RF power for each corresponding unit of the main linac through energy extracting RF structures. CLIC has a wide range of center-of-mass energy options from 150 GeV to 3 TeV. The present paper contains optimization of Free Electron Laser (FEL) using one bunch of CLIC drive beam ...
